About Us
From the beginning, John’s passion has been customer service. He has gone to the hospital after work to cut a ring off a swollen finger at no charge. Upon request he will visit a retirement home to appraise jewelry or re-tip worn prongs on a wedding ring. He has often hand-delivered a wedding ring, or even participated in a surprise engagement event.
That passion extends to jewelry design-a unique creation that will have special meaning for the customer. He will often use an inherited piece of jewelry or a colored stone purchased on a vacation. He is able to create a unique look that enhances the beauty of the stones, but also fits the customer’s lifestyle.
Above all, this passion for customer service means delivering a quality product at a competitive price. When a customer comes in and wants a one-carat diamond but does not have the finances to afford the color, cut, and clarity of a fine stone, John has a choice. He prefers to lose the sale, rather than to sell an inferior product. “I don’t want to be embarrassed when that customer tells their friends that they purchased the jewelry at Berry’s.”
There have been many challenges during the last 45 years as an independent jeweler. The economic fluctuations, the rising cost of gold and diamonds, changes in lifestyles, and the move from in-store sales to online buying have presented obstacles. John’s focus on customer service, quality repairs and unique custom designs have overcome those challenges. Through all of the ups and downs, Berry’s Jewelers has remained true to John’s calling as a craftsman, businessman, and as a Christian.
